At Willow Nursery, we know that outdoor learning is essential for every child’s growth and development. Time spent outside helps children develop physical strength, coordination, and confidence, supports social and emotional skills, sparks creativity and imagination, and encourages a love of nature and exploration. Children benefit from outdoor learning daily, and our spaces are designed to make every moment active, fun, and educational.
Our outdoor spaces mirror and expand the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) learning areas on a larger scale and are enriched through the Natural Thinkers project, bringing hands-on, nature-based learning to life.
Highlights include:
- Big slide area, trampoline, and swings – exciting, inclusive play opportunities that build confidence, strength, and coordination 🧗♀️
- Bike area – children develop balance, control, and independence while enjoying active movement 🚲
- Mud kitchen, sand and water play, and construction area – encouraging creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, and sensory exploration 🌱
- Cosy outdoor book corner – a calm and inviting space where children can relax, share stories, and enjoy quiet moments in nature 📚
- Planting and digging area – children get hands-on with nature as they plant flowers and vegetables, learning about growth, responsibility, and where food comes from 🌼🥕
- Bug hotel – a fascinating mini-beast habitat where children can observe insects, explore habitats, and develop respect for the natural world 🐞
- Separate outdoor spaces for our Baby Room and Sunshine Room – safe, stimulating environments designed especially for our youngest learners 🌞
- Views of Wembley Stadium – sparking curiosity, conversations, and big imaginations ⚽
- Train-watching spot – a favourite place where children love spotting trains and waving to passengers as they pass by 🚆👋
