Wellcomm
Introducing the WellComm Project
We are excited to announce that our nursery will soon be implementing the WellComm Project, a specialist speech and language programme designed to support children’s communication and language development from an early age. While it is not a literacy programme, WellComm focuses on oral language skills, which are the essential building blocks for reading, writing, and overall literacy. It helps us identify children who may need extra support and provides targeted activities to develop vocabulary, listening skills, comprehension, and clear speech.
We are also planning to use WellComm as our base assessment for all children, ensuring every child’s language development is carefully monitored from the start. This allows us to tailor learning and support to each child’s needs and track progress effectively.
Our trained staff team will lead the programme to ensure every child benefits fully:
- Amanda Richbell-Williams, Deputy Manager and Lead for Teaching and Learning.
- Our Lead Practitioners, Lorna Elington (3-4 room) and Radhika (2-3 room), will play a key role in delivering activities and monitoring progress.
- All room leaders will also be trained, including Ann (Room Leader 3-4 room), Jo, and Regina (Room Leader 2-3 room and Baby Room),
The WellComm Project will be used through screening, monitoring, and small group or one-to-one sessions, helping children build confidence in expressing themselves, supporting social, emotional, and cognitive development, and laying the foundation for future literacy skills.
We will also involve parents by sharing practical tips and resources to continue language development at home, ensuring children get consistent support both at nursery and at home.
Through WellComm, we aim to give every child the best start in communication, helping them thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.
